Do not allow Arch Angels to get wet. Feet can sweat up to half a cup of moisture during a dance session, or other sporting activities.
Ballets slippers and pointe shoes should be hung upside down to dry out after use. Other footwear should have laces opened, or zips undone and then placed in an airy spot to dry out.
Moist shoes encourage fungal and bacterial growth, and promote foot odour. The salt in sweat also damages leather, silicone products and shanks in shoes.
Covers can
be maintained by wiping over with a damp cloth or leather care products.
Talc powder
can be placed on the underside of the orthotic to encourage the flexion
and extension movement of the device- but do not put powder over the
velcro dot.
RESHAPING.
Arch Angels can be reheated and reshaped. Instructions for this are available on the Reshaping page, CLICK HERE.
REPLACING.
Arch Angels will need replacing when the central portion of the insoles will no longer hold a good arch shape. The foot can grow without losing function, because the functional part of the insole is in the central arch area.
Dancers or athletes who spend many hours a week using Arch Angels will need to replace them more frequently due to increased "wear and tear".
REINFORCING.
If you notice wear patterns occurring (particularly on the underside where the firm central portion of the Arch Angel moves backwards and forwards on the slipper), you can place sports tape or a similar product over the area to reinforce the area. This is OK as long as the Arch Angels can still slide forward as the foot flattens.
The very small Arch Angels are not reinforced or stitched, and it is quite OK to use tape if you notice that the soft blue layer is wearing through.
